Signalman, 1st Class, U.S.S. Arizona; born at The Dalles OR, 3 Jul 1898; son of Mr. and Mrs. W. A. Smiley (William & Naomi), Mt. Vernon WA; entered service from Seattle WA, 20 Mar 1918; transferred from Seattle to Hampton Roads, to U.S.S. Arizona; on board only American battleship to go through the Dardanelles; discharged at Bremerton WA, 9 Jul 1919.
