Andrew J Walters 50th Wedding Anniversary
Andrew J. Walters served aboard the USS ARIZONA from 1937 to 1939 as PFC with the US Marine Corp. Detachment.

During my time on the ARIZONA, I served as orderly both to Admiral Chester Nimitz and Capt. Isaac Kidd.

Admiral Nimitz, at that time, was the Commander of Battleship Division I, which consisted of four battleships. Capt. Kidd became an Admiral after I completed my tour of duty on the ARIZONA.

During the time I served on the ARIZONA, Amelia Earhart's plane was lost at sea. The ARIZONA was one of the ships ordered to search for her. The weather was the worst it had been in a number of years, causing the waves to roll over the bow of the ship.

I served with the Marine Corps. during the Korean War and Vietnam and was medically retired from the Marines during he Vietnam War. I reside at Phoenix, Arizona with my wife, Pearl. I am very fortunate to have all my immediate family, consisting of our daughter, Pamela Goslar, her husband Martin, our son Alex Walters, six grandchildren and three great grand- children living in the Phoenix area.

Because of my poor health, we will not be able to attend the 1999 ARIZONA Reunion, but we send our very best wishes to all.
