The USS
Arizona was sunk on December 7, 1941, when the ship was hit by a 1,760-pound armor-piercing bomb during the surprise attack on Pearl Harbor by Japanese Naval Forces. The USS
Arizona Memorial, built over the wreck of the battleship USS
Arizona, was dedicated on Memorial Day 1962. It serves as a lasting tribute to the 1,177 men who lost their lives on that "Day of Infamy".
