USS Arizona now a blazing inferno. The water is coated in flaming oil. Many survivors had to swim through this blazing oil to reach safety - coated in oil and badly burned, but alive.

Within only 8 short minutes after the attack began, the mighty USS Arizona lay sunk in the harbor with most of her crew still trapped aboard.

The USS Arizona continued to blaze long after the attack was over.

USS Arizona as seen from Ford Island. This is the swim that many survivors made to reach saftey. A short distance of only a couple hundred yards, but what seemed like miles to those making the swim - so many were badly burned - some mortally wounded.

Plaque at the original USS Arizona Memorial - 1959. Reads "The tomb of 1,102 men who gave their lives on 7 Dec. 1941." Today the most accurate count is believed to be between 902 and 945 men entombed on the Arizona.
