Funeral mass for DeWayne Barth, 87, was held Monday, Feb. 9 at St. Dominic Warren Chapel with Rev. James J. Madden, celebrant. Interment was at the Houston National Cemetery with Earthman Fannin Funeral Home in charge of arrangements.
DeWayne, the son of Lewis and Hattie Barth, was born August 3, 1916 in Ellington Township. He died February 6, 2004. Bath, a Navy veteran and Pearl Harbor survivor of the USS Arizona, served in the Navy from 1936 until 1958. He achieved the rank of Chief Warrant Officer, Grade 4, and was awarded numerous service medals including the Bronze Star and Purple Heart. An avid hunter and fisherman, Barth was a lifetime member of Pearl Harbor Survivors Association, VFW Post 5515, American Legion Post 256, and Hancock County Conservation Board.
He is survived by his wife Maggie; daughters: Margaret (Tom) Ambroson, Deborah (Jim) Arns; granddaughter Christine Ambroson; sister Margie (Don) Skogerboe; and numerous relatives and friends.
Barth was preceded in death by his parents, brother Leigh, niece Pamela Smith, and grandson Bradley Ambroson.
