Clarendon Robert Hetrick
Clarendon Hetrick was in the Navy on board the USS Arizona. Clare was in the aft Magazine when the Arizona exploded. Clare does not know how to swim but made it to Ford Island with no problems that day.

On September 11, 2002, one year after the attack on the Twin Towers, we know that comparisons between the two tragic sneak attacks were drawn even before the second tower had crumpled, but to the men and women who enlisted to serve the country, last Sept. 11 was worse.

December 7, 1941 was memorialized yet again in 1998 by the U.S. government with a landing ship commissioned the USS Pearl Harbor. "What type of structure or national day of recognition will come of last year's events is yet to be seen," said Hetrick, 79.

"The atrocity of the attack on civilians last year should be remembered for decades to come", Hetrick said, "but history repeats itself, and if people don't keep on their toes, it's likely to happen again."
